Why People Use Internet
Learn why you should design your website thinking in offering information to visitors instead of services.

Please answer as clearly as possible to the following question: Why do you think people use Internet?

(Please take a few seconds to ponder the answer and continue only if you have answered the question)

This exercise can bring you a big profit. This is so important that may ultimately change your plans and strategies for designing your website. Already have an answer?

Well, let’s examine some probable answers:
People use Internet because:

1. They can find what they want, whatever that is.
2. It is the hot topic.
3. Virtually there’s no cost to do so.
4. For most people it is enjoyable.
5. Sometimes it facilitates the implementation of activities.
6. They want to talk to someone.
7. They are conducting a research.
8. They want to find products and services companies.
9. They do business in the Internet.

Does any of these responses look similar in some way to the answer you have given? I’m confident that within this group of answers, there is one similar to the one you have thought of.

Let me tell you that your Internet success lies primarily in a combination of two of these answers:

"People regularly use Internet because they can find the information they seek and obtain the services they need quickly and easily from the comfort of their own home or office."

It must be understood then that the Internet is not just for advertising, that is, that we should not make a website based only on promotion of goods and services.

We must have information to offer to our visitors and, as in other media such as radio or television, take advantage of visits to the website to advertise our products and services.

People not only want to know about products and services or business offers, but rather expect to find technical information, instructions for use, storage, installation and maintenance, recommendations, guarantees, quick guides, application techniques, practical instructions in case of problems, contact staff, quality programs, production capacity, among other topics.

This is the kind of information that attracts visitors to websites. If your site contains relevant information, you can have your visitors stay for several hours.

It is important to note that people coming to your website, unlike what happens with other media, are people who have passed away through a process of awareness prior to arrival at your company's website. Let me explain this thesis. The fact that they have entered the site, means they are people related to the type of your business and know about the subjects that you talk about. They probably have used a search engine by entering a few keywords related to products and services of your organization offers, and this necessarily makes them potential customers.

Now you know better, take advantage of this need for information to attract more visitors and increase the likelihood of generating new business opportunities. Design your website thinking of offering information services to visitors, not just advertising.
